Projects/Conferences That Did Not Work

  • 2017 - Open Academic Data: Tools and Community Around Expanding Open Data in Higher Education

    IASSIST 2017

Submitted a proposal for a full-length presentation on opening administrative academic data to the public. Was accepted to give a “Pecha Kucha” or lightning talk instead. Was not able to attend due to scheduling conflicts.

  • 2017 - Mutual Benefit of Text and Data Integration in Open Access Platforms

    Robert Wood Johnson Foundation

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) published a Call for Proposals dedicated to Open Access called Increasing Openness and Transparency in Research. With the Harvard Office of Scholarly Communication and Harvard Institute for Quantitative Social Sciences (IQSS), I submitted a Letter of Intent describing the project.

We were one of 28 groups chosen to send a full proposal for funding (out of ~100 Letters of Intent).

We submitted a Statement of Impact, Proposal Narrative (with citations), Budget Narrative, and Timeline. I completed the writing for all of these documents.

After coordination with Harvard Office of Scholarly Programs, we determined that the original hiring and budget plan for a research assistant was not appropriate. Those plans were changed, leading to a very large increase in the requested budget (not reflected in the documents above). I believe that the change in budget was the main reason that RWJF chose not to fund this project.
